About

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

History

Backed by our holding company ‘LEM Industries S.p.A.’, whose deep understanding and industry position in electroplating, wastewater treatment and precious materials recovery – stands us in good stead with our newest venture in the recovery of precious metals from electronic waste.

Since its inception in 1974, LEM has significantly expanded, acquiring and establishing additional companies, and diversifying its processing and business standing through materials recovery, refining and water treatment. This has enabled it to become the world reference for electroplating products and accessories of the most prestigious names and brands in international fashion and luxury.

Consistent growth has been possible thanks to the LEM’s solid investments in skills’ development and the evolvement of its structures and facilities. Its ever-increasing product lines currently involve the full processing of manual, semi-automatic and automatic electroplating (nickel and nickel-free), including vintage pre-and post-finishing.

Today, several operators in the luxury and fashion industries from artisans to major global brands and players, entrust LEM with the realisation of their many products.

The success of LEM Industries is largely down to its unique point-of-view and perception of the world, compared to the rest of the galvanic production community. At the same, there has been the utmost care taken to reduce the environmental impact from what it produces.

LEM is fully confident of extending and transferring this self-same expertise and know-how to its newest subsidiary, ‘Cape Refining’, which opened its doors in South-Africa in 2019.

Vision

In wanting to further expand its reach and explore new avenues for growth in related markets, LEM Industries identified the opportunity of establishing a plant for the recovery of precious metals from e-waste. As a result of feasibility studies and industry research during 2018, it welcomed the addition of Cape Refining, a South African company duly registered for the purposes of conducting business in Africa.

Cape Refining has since launched its operations focused on developing projects for the refining and recovery of precious metals from e-waste.

At the outset, Cape Refining will export e-waste to the group’s Italian refineries. In the near future, however, there will be a move to set up a plants to refine and recover e-waste locally in South Africa.
